Hi Brian,
Absolutly love your work, each piece has such great emotion, and are so well executed, with just the right amount of realism.
I tip my hat to you sir. :)
I do portraits in Graphite at the moment, but would really like to be able to do CP work as well.
What materials do you use, and how did you learn?
Are there any books I could buy to start me off?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am eager to learn :)

Thank you , there's no easy answer .I did graphite as well got to the stage I thought it was a bit flat . I've try acrylic and oils a bit expensive and messy . I've only used Faber Castell polychromos pencils and Faber castell Pitt oil black pencils for dark back grounds I've used a little turps on a brush to smooth out the back grounds. The first ones I did where on bristol board because I had it but its to smooth for the colour pencil , I now use Winsor & Newton medium cartridge paper heavywieght. 100lbs/220gsm.I have used water colour paper but thats more expensive.I keep the pencils sharp and put them on the paper lightly blending them in with a soft cloth and build up the colour ,I suppose its like graphite, blending and building up the shade but its now colour,I find it easier with a picture with a lot of tones in it ,light and dark shades I suppose its about picking the right picture to do as well, Its just over a year ago I started with coloured pencils the first one was Red .its trial and error and what style suits the way you draw ( that was good there sounded like an expert)You've just got to dive in. I think I try to make the drawings not look like colour pencils. I think what spurred me on was a guy on this site that does pastels and pastel pencils drawings commented on one of my first drawings saying coloured pencils where for kids, artists used pastels, I think I proved him wrong . SORRY I rambled on a bit , well you did ask, Had a look at your gallery , you're good at portraits so you should be able to do it. oo the soft cloth I use for blending is a yellow Vileda dish cloth.Love to see how you get on . keep in touch .,
Brian

Wow, That is quite the reply, some people just ignore questions like mine coz they cant be bothered. So I appreciate you taking the time.
I have just ordered some Faber Castell polychromos, and I have an assortment of papers(trial and error surplus) so I will dive in and see what suits me best.
I use make up cotton pads for blending at the moment, but will see if the "Mrs" will let me use her viledas.
I started drawing about 7 months ago, Thanks for your comment on my gallery, I seem to have picked it up quite well, but I agree to a certain extent that graphite can seem to be lacking somthing sometimes.
You definatley proved that guy wrong, your drawings are really good. I was seaching for portraits done in colour pencil, when I found you on Fine art america. I had'nt really seen any as good as yours, and it comfirmed to me that it could be done.
Anyway, now I'm rambling, sorry.
Thanks for your detailed response, and I will post my efforts on here (good or bad):)
